BLM ISSUES RECORD OF DECISION FOR AMBLER MINING DISTRICT INDUSTRIAL ACCESS PROJECT (AMDIAP)

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issued a Record of Decision (ROD) yesterday that authorizes a right-of-way across federally managed lands to the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) to construct a limited access, 211-mile road to the Ambler Mining District.

While a significant milestone, the ROD represents another step in a series of processes to fully evaluate the proposed project to support the road development. AIDEA must engage in detailed discussions with the landowners, conduct further studies as part of the current feasibility stage and submit to the state permitting process.

NANA recognizes that AMDIAP represents one of the most significant projects that could develop in our region. Throughout the process, NANA has advocated for a clear commitment from AIDEA that ensures subsistence activities will be protected, impacts to the environment will be minimized or eliminated and communication with communities will be consistent throughout the life of the project and in the development of its infrastructure.

NANA partners with Ambler Metals on mineral exploration in the Ambler Mining District, including the most advanced projects in the area: Arctic and Bornite – two copper deposits that are part of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP).

The ROD was developed in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service and the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
